⚡ A Panchayat Paving the Way for a Power Project
West Kallada Grama Panchayat — 50 MW Floating Solar Project
50 MW Power Generation Capacity
500 acres Land Acquired
400+ Participating Landowners
₹300+ Cr Estimated Investment
3% Profit Share to Landowners
25 years Power Generation Agreement Term
Once rendered barren by unscientific sand and silt mining, the Mundakanpadam wetlands in West Kallada were once known as the "Suicide Point." Today, the same land is set to become the hub of the first-ever power project with a local self-government institution as a stakeholder — a 50-megawatt electricity generation initiative that stands as a model for the entire state.
📌 How the Project Took Shape
- Formation of the Company Bringing together around 400 landowners, the Panchayat took the lead in registering a company named 'West Kallada Non-Conventional Energy Promoters Private Limited (WKNCEP).'
- Transfer of Land Around 500 acres of land were acquired from farmers and handed over to the funding agency, National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC).
- Agreement with KSEB For the distribution of the electricity generated, KSEB entered into an agreement with NHPC.
- Global Tender NHPC invited a global tender for power generation over a period of 25 years. The project is initially expected to cost over ₹300 crore, and 3% of the profit share will go to the landowners.
- Construction Inauguration With all procedures completed, the construction of the 50 MW floating solar project in West Kallada Panchayat has now been inaugurated.
