Kallada Boat Race
The Kallada Boat Race is one of the most famous water regattas in Southern Kerala. It is held every year on the 28th day of Onam (28-am Onam), which corresponds to the Thiruvonam asterism in the Malayalam month of Kanni. Almost all major snake boats (Chundan Vallam) compete on the waters in this event.
The race takes place at the Muthiraparambu-Karutrakadavu stretch of the Kallada River. On that day, thousands of enthusiastic spectators gather along the 1,400-meter stretch on both banks of the river. The grand celebrations of Onam come to an end with this 28th-day observance. It can be said that the boat race season in Kerala, which begins with the Champakulam Boat Race, concludes with the Kallada Water Festival. It is also a key race included in the Champions Boat League (CBL).
